Each of the hard limestone slabs I chose from the stoneyard has areas of maximum resonance, and dud zones. It seems to make no difference whether the stones are supported on the car tires at the nodes or anywhere else, they are so dense. I drilled 3/8" holes in locations therefore that are suitable for securing the stones to the right size of tire edge, not for acoustic reasons.
In order to help players locate the sweet spots I etched circles and expanding concentric patterns on the surface with a screw driver, giving a nice petroglyph effect that can be continued in other areas of the playground.
